USA Women Clinch World University Games Gold Medal Game Berth

The USA Women's Basketball team advanced to the Gold Medal game of the World University Games being played in Izmir, Turkey with a 118-67 win over Russia on Wednesday, August 17.

UCLA's Lisa Willis (Narbonne HS) helped lead the way for the USA team with 13 points (5-7 shooting and three three-pointers) and five rebounds. LSU's Sylvia Fowles topped the USA with 25 points. Willis added two assists and two steals for the USA team.

The USA team was able to break open a close game, which was tied at 26 after one quarter, pulling out to 50-33 advantage at the half. The USA squad went on to outscore the previously unbeaten Russian team 45-17 in final quarter.

The USA team will meet Serbia & Montenegro for the World University Games gold medal in women's basketball on Friday, August 19. The Serbia & Montenegro team bested Australia in the day's other semifinal contest, 70-57.
