Postcard from Italy - Aug. 16
Aug. 16, 2005
VENICE, Italy - Today commenced when I was awakened by Rod Benson at 7:30 a.m., who was in need of my hair clippers. After that encounter, I could not go back to sleep, so I ascended to the top floor to participate in the continental breakfast with Richard Midgley.
Today was our final day in Florence, so we got all packed up and had our last Florentine meal. Which brings me to the observation of mine: People in Italy are never in a rush or get flustered. The pace of waiters in restaurants is so laid back that most meals end up being two or more hours.
A long bus ride later led us to the Ferrari Museum, where we were surrounded by gorgeous sports cars, past and present. After another quick bite to eat, we took an additional hour-and-a-half bus ride to the gym. I was anxious to play being since this is my first game as a Cal Bear!
The team got off to a slow start due to being on a bus the whole day, but we pulled together and rolled to a 109-66 victory! Every one of my teammates played extremely well!
After the game, we dined on pizza and pasta. We didn't leave the restaurant until midnight and drove off to Venice - the city of romance! We got there at about 3 in the morning and took a boat ride to our hotel. It was so surreal that we were in VENICE! It's amazing to see that there were no streets, that you had to ride a boat or walk. In any case, I am really tired now and we have a game the next day, but let me finish off by giving daily awards!
