Postcard from Italy - Aug. 18

VENICE, Italy - Cal fans:
I started my day with a tour of Venice. It is the best when you see it up close. Pictures do it no justice, and the church of St. Mark was unbelievable.
After the tour, we stopped to eat - everyone knows I like food as much as basketball. To get to our game we had to take a water taxi to get to the bus. It's pretty complicated getting around in Venice. There are no roadways, just the gondolas and sidewalks that are just as slim as my staircase at home. It can be overwhelming at times when there are so many people.
Fortunately the bus ride was short to the gym. We beat the team from Slovenia pretty bad - I'm looking forward to better competition in our next few games.
At times it can be very frustrating not understanding Italian, but I think what everyone is saying is good - at least I hope. Florence was pretty cool and the beach bear Pisa was awesome. And you know what? The Leaning Tower really leans.
Now off to Triesta to play game #3 and by the end of this game, I hope to be 3-0.
