Scott Ryan Named Women's Gymnastics Assistant

BERKELEY, Calif. - California women's gymnastics Head Coach Cari DuBois announced today that Scott Ryan has been named the new assistant coach for the women's program. Ryan, who served as the director and head coach at Aztec Gymnastics in San Deigo, Calif., is a graduate of West Virginia University with an undergraduate degree in journalism and a masters of science in sports promotions.
'I am very excited about getting back into college coaching,' Ryan said. 'I have had many athletes go on to great experiences in the college ranks and watched how much they enjoyed it. Cari and I enjoy some common coaching experiences and I feel this will definitely help in the formation of this year's team.'
While at Aztec Gymnastics, Ryan led his teams to 33 state and regional championships in the state of California and national champions in both the United State and Mexico. Also 18 of his gymnast earned college gymnastics scholarships.
In addition to Ryan's gymnastics teaching, he served as a lecturer at San Diego State University where he taught undergraduate classes in the Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences.
Prior to his experience in San Diego, he served as the head coach and program director at Buckeye Gymnastics in Columbus, Ohio. He additionally occupied the position of event or meet director at the 1999-2000 San Diego Winter Classic, 1988-1996 Buckeye Classic, 1995 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships and 1985 Atlantic 10 Gymnastics Championships.
