Cal Swimmers Flourish at World University Games

The Cal women's swimming team put forth a strong showing at the World University Games posting three Top-10 finishes including a win in the 800-meter free relay. The World University Games took place in Izmir, Turkey from Aug. 12-17.
Recent grad Lauren Medina and senior Ashley Chandler helped the 800 free relay team finish first in 8:05.92. Elizabeth Hill (Georgia) and Leah Retrum (Florida) swam the other two legs. The relay was seven-tenths of a second off the Universiade record the US set in 1995.
In the 200 free, Medina placed sixth in 2:01.49 after posting the second-fastest time in the prelims. Incoming freshman Lauren Rogers finished sixth in the 100 back (1:03.15). Junior Sherry Tsai, who was representing Hong Kong at the meet, took first in the B final of the 100 back in 1:03.53.
