Four UCLA Golfers to Compete in U.S. Amateur
Aug. 21, 2005
Four former and current UCLA golfers are scheduled to tee off Aug. 22 in the 105th U.S. Amateur Championship, hosted at historic Merion Golf Club and the Philadelphia Country Club.
Recent UCLA alumni Roy Moon and John Poucher and current roster members Chris Heintz and Kevin Chappell will participate in the 36-hole stroke play format, hoping to qualify for the match play draw after a two-round cut.
Poucher and Heintz will be making their second appearances in the event; Moon and Chappell will tee it up for the first time. In 2003, Poucher missed the cut at Oakmont, and in 2004 Heintz advanced to match play before falling in his opening round match at Winged Foot.
On Monday, Poucher (8:54 a.m.), Chappell (2:20 p.m.) and Heintz (2:42 p.m.) play at the Philadelphia CC and Moon goes out at 1:47 p.m. at Merion.
On Tuesday, Moon (8:32 a.m.) plays at the Philadelphia CC, followed by Chappell (9:05 a.m.), Heintz (9:27 a.m.) and Poucher (2:09 p.m.) at Merion.
All tee times are EDT.
