COUGS HIT THE ROAD FOR SEASON OPENER: The Washington State volleyball team, under second-year head coach Brian Heffernan, travels to Portland to take on the Pilots in the season-opening contest Sunday, Aug. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Chiles Center...the Cougs ended the 2004 season with a stunning upset of No. 6 and two-time defending national champions USC in a 3-2 win at Pullman.

IF YOU WERE A BETTING MAN: The Washington State volleyball team has won its season-opening match 13 of the past 14 years...last year the Cougars dropped a five-game heartbreaker at UNLV.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Brian Heffernan returns for his second season at WSU (5-26)...WSU's assistant coaches are Jody Garry (second year) and newcomer Ken Ko, formerly an assistant at Cal State Fullerton.
