Round One Results from the U.S. Amateur

Four former and current UCLA golfers competed in the first round of the 105th U.S. Amateur Championship Monday, hosted at historic Merion Golf Club and the Philadelphia Country Club.
At the Philadelphia CC sophomore Kevin Chappell posted a 73 (+3) and was tied for 65th place, former Bruin John Poucher shot a 75 (+5) and was tied for 125th and junior Chris Heintz was tied for 143rd after carding a 75 (+5).
At Merion, former UCLA All-American Roy Moon was tied for 267th after an opening round of 82 (+12).
Charlie Beljan of Mesa, AZ, leads the 312-player field after an opening round score of 64 (-6) at the Philadelphia CC. The top 64 players advance to match play after the 36-hole cut on Tuesday.
