Aug. 27, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - A record crowd of 5,743 fans filled up Morrison Stadium on Friday night, as the Stanford men's soccer team defeated the 12th-ranked Bluejays 1-0 in the Cardinal's final exhibition match of the season. The record attendance shattered the former mark by more than 1,300.
Stanford scored the game's lone goal in the eighth minute, when Galen Thompson found the back of the net. The junior perfectly placed the ball in the right upper-90 from across the field and 25 yards out just 7:21 into the match.
Preseason All-American goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen and the Cardinal defense kept CU off the board, stopping all four shots on goal.
Stanford opens the regular season next week against San Jose State on September 1 in San Jose.
