Soccer Captain's Diary: First Weekend of Competition
Aug. 31, 2005
We started our weekend by going to Idaho State and we were very excited because it was our season opener and we were ready to put into play what we had been working on. We knew we were going into a hostile environment, but we're prepared and we fed off of the enthusiasm of the crowd. An early goal gave us the energy we needed to finish off the first half. The second half we came out strong and scored again, unfortunately the Bengals snuck in a goal, but we stayed strong and finished out the game.
We were up bright and early the next morning to prepare for our game against our state border rivals, the Idaho Vandals. Sunday the game started out a bit slow, but we made some adjustments and stuck it out. Unfortunately, we had to go into overtime, but ultimately we ended with a positive result with a goal at the end of the first overtime period. Overall the weekend was a success, we came out with two wins, and a clearer picture of where we are today, and what is necessary for us to get to where we want to be in the future.
We are preparing this week to go to Tennessee where we hope to apply what we learned from the previous weekend, and we are thrilled for a different environment as well as a new challenge.
