Sept. 2, 2005

PULLMAN, Wash. - Chris Matthews has signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's basketball at Washington State University this fall, Cougar Head Coach Dick Bennett announced, Friday.

'We are excited to add a quality player and person to our Cougar Basketball family in Chris Matthews,' WSU Associate Head Coach Tony Bennett said. 'The opportunity for our program to add a player of Chris' ability late in the recruiting process is very fortunate for us. We believe he will make us a very competitive basketball team.'

A native of Washington, D.C., Matthews attended National Christian Academy (Washington, D.C.), where he was a captain for two seasons before transferring to Lutheran Christian Academy (Philadelphia, Pa.) for his senior season. The 6-foot-3, 198 pound guard was a McDonald's All-American nominee during his final year.

Matthews joins fall signees Caleb Forrest and Antonio Chavers along with spring signees Ivory Clark, Rodney Edgerson, and Aron Baynes as members of the Cougars' 2005-06 recruiting class.
