Ward, Munoz to Compete in Solheim Cups This Week

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Sun Devil Wendy Ward and current ASU freshman Azahara Munoz will compete this week in the Solheim Cup and the Junior Solheim Cup, respectively.
Ward, who finished 13th in the point standings, was chosen to play on the 12-member U.S.Solheim Cup team by captain Nancy Lopez. It will mark her third consecutive appearance on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team. A two-time National Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year and a three-time All-American during her time at ASU, Ward owns a 2-1-1 record in the Solheim Cup when it is being contested in the United States. She halved her singles match with Annika Sorenstam in 2002 to help the U.S. to a three-point victory.
The 2005 Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 9-11 at the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
Munoz will make her third appearance on the European team at the 2005 PING Junior Solheim Cup. She also played on the team in 2002 and 2003. Munoz comes to ASU from Malaga, Spain, where she won the 2004 Girls' British Open Amateur title and finished second at the event in 2005. She also played on the Spanish team at the 2005 European Girls Team Championship.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 5-7 at the Bridgewater Club in Westfield, Ind.
