Former Trojan Brian Bannister Leads Team USA In World Cup Opener

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands -- Former USC pitcher Brian Bannister allowed just one run on three hits in six innings of work Sunday as the U.S. National Team defeated Colombia, 12-1, in the first round of the IBAF XXXVI World Cup.

Bannister, who pitched at USC from 2000-03, walked two and struck out five batters for Team USA. This season, Bannister has rocketed through the New York Mets' organization and is currently playing at Triple A Norfolk. He has a 4-1 record and a 3.18 ERA with the Tides after a 9-4 record and 2.56 ERA at Double A Binghamton.
