Cardinal Men's Soccer Take On CS Northridge/Vanderbilt At Cal Tourney

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's soccer team (0-1-1) try to get back on track this weekend with a pair of games at the adidas Cal Legacy Classic, Sept. 9 and 11 at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, Calif. The Cardinal will open with Cal State Northridge (2-0-0) on Friday at noon then take on Vanderbilt (2-0-0) on Sunday at noon.

Stanford went 0-1-1 last week picking up a 0-0 (OT2) tie against San Jose State before falling to UC Davis 0-1. The Cardinal are in the middle of a five game road stretch that ends in Santa Clara on Friday, Sept. 16.

Soccer America preseason All-American Andrew Kartunen (San Juan Capistrano, CA) has a 0.45 goals against average in net in 200 minutes played. Redshirt sophomore Marcus Ryan (Littleton, CO) leads the squad with five shots on goal, however, the team is still looking for its first goal of the season.

The Matadors enter Friday's contest with a 2-0 record after wins over Oakland (W, 4-0) and Dartmouth (W, 3-0) last week. Junior forward Willie Sims leads the squad with three goals on the season. The team is coached by Terry Davila who is in his seventh year at the helm of the program. The Cardinal hold a 2-1-0 advantage in the all-time series with the CS Northridge. The last meeting between the two teams took place in 1997, as Stanford defeated CSN, 4-0 at the UNLV/Coors Light Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Commodores come to town with a 2-0 record with victories over Georgia State (W, 4-3 OT) and College of Charleston (W, 1-0). Vanderbilt will play California before their contest with the Cardinal on Sunday. Senior forward John Krause leads the team with four goals on the year. The squad is coached by Tim McClements who is in his third year at the helm. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

Stanford wraps up its five game road trip next week, when they travel down the road to face Santa Clara on Friday, September 16 in the Bay Area Classic. The Cardinal then play their home opener against San Francisco on Sunday, September 18 at 1 p.m.
