Husky Golfers Grab Early Lead At Topy Cup

Fukushima, Japan - The Washington women's golf team shot 7-over 295 to grab the first round lead at the season-opening Topy Cup being held at the Tanagura Country Club in Fukushima, Japan.

Washington was led by the 4-under 68 of senior Paige Mackenzie. She leads the field after the first 18 holes by three strokes. Arizona State, the other U.S. college team competing in the event trailed Washington by five strokes.

Husky junior Amber Prange is tied for third after carding an opening round 72. Courtney McCracken is 15th at 76 while Kim Shin is 22nd at 79. Sung Ea Lee shot 85 during the first day of play.

The women's portion of the Topy Cup also features three Japanese university's Tohoku Fukushi is two strokes behind the Sun Devils while Senshu is fourth at 311. Nihon is fifth at 312. The tournament runs through Wednesday.
