Slovic, Chu Earn ITA Preseason Rankings

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its men's preseason rankings, Tuesday, which included one Husky singles player and two doubles teams. Junior Alex Slovic earned both rankings, checking in at No. 23 in singles and No. 5 in doubles with UW junior Daniel Chu. Slovic and incoming freshman Patrik Fischer also received a No. 38 doubles billing.
The No. 5 ranking for Slovic and Chu is a school record, surpassing the previous high doubles ranking of ninth set by the All-American tandem of Eric Drew and Robert Kendrick in 1999.
Slovic finished the 2004-05 season with a singles ranking of 44th and along with Chu finished 18th in doubles. Slovic tallied a 21-7 singles record and fell from the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship, dropping in straight sets to the No. 4 seed, Catalin Gard, from Ole Miss.
In doubles last year, Slovic and Chu recorded a12-6 overall record and made it to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championship. The UW duo was ousted by KC Corkery and Sam Warburg of Stanford.
The Huskies kick off the 2005-06 season at the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 4, in Tulsa, Okla.
