  • Pac-10 men's soccer posted a 5-5-3 record over its opening weekend of play, good enough for an even .500 clip ... CALIFORNIA was the lone team to go undefeated, posting two wins of identical 2-0 scores over fourth-ranked UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside.

  • Both UCLA and Cal are ranked in this week's Soccer America and NSCAA/adidas polls ... The Bruins placed in at No. 7 and No. 15, while the Bears are ranked ninth and tenth, respectively.

  • SAN DIEGO STATE opened its 2005 season on the road at the Phillips/adidas Classic, posting a 1-0 win over Rutgers, as well as adding a scoreless tie against fifth-ranked St. John's ... Aztec goalkeeper Tally Hall was named Defensive MVP of the tournament.

  • WASHINGTON notched a 1-1 record over the weekend, including a 3-1 defeat of Cal Poly in its season opener ... Sophomores Adam West and Spencer Schmidt scored their first career goals over a three-minute span in the second half.

  • In STANFORD's 0-0 tie with San Jose State on Thurs., Sept. 1, goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen recorded his first shutout on the season and notched two saves in the game.

  • OREGON STATE opened its 2005 campaign with three tough matches on the road, coming away with a tie and two losses ... Freshman midfielder Collin Foster scored his first career goal against Sacramento State on Mon., Sept. 5.

  • This week's schedule is highlighted by numerous tournaments ... Cal will host its own adidas Cal Legacy Classic, in which Stanford will also compete; OSU will host the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Classic in Corvallis; SDSU will host UC Riverside, while UCLA will play at Loyola Marymount and Washington travels to Saint Mary's.

  • CALIFORNIA Golden BearsThe California men's soccer team opened up its 2005 season with a bang, notching 2-0 identical wins over No. 4 UC Santa Barbara on Fri., Sept. 2 and UC Riverside on Sun., Sept. 4 ... Junior midfielder Eric Ebert scored the game-winning goal in the upset over the Gauchos ... Senior goalkeeper Eric Kronberg made four saves in the win, as well as notching his ninth career shutout ... The Bears are ranked ninth in this week's Soccer America poll and tenth in the NSCAA/adidas poll ... Cal will next host the Legacy Classic in Berkeley, facing Vanderbilt and Cal State Northridge on Fri., Sept. 9 and Sun., Sept. 11, respectively.

  • OREGON STATE BeaversOregon State had a difficult start to its 2005 season, opening with three games on the road, including a tie at UC Davis and two losses at Saint Mary's and Sacramento State ... Against the Hornets on Mon., Sept. 5, the Beavers outshot their opponent, 12-11 and had a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks, but could not hold on as they lost, 2-1 ... Freshman midfielder Collin Foster scored his first career goal in the match ... OSU will next host their own Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Classic in Corvallis, facing Iona and Kentucky on Fri., Sept. 9 and Sat., Sept. 10, respectively.

  • SAN DIEGO STATE AztecsSan Diego State got off to a great start in its inaugural campaign in the Pac-10 Conference ... The Aztecs headed east to play in the Phillips/adidas Classic, coming away with a 1-0 win over host Rutgers, as well as a scoreless tie versus St. John's ... SDSU is 1-0-1 on the year ... Junior Goalkeeper Tally Hall was named the defensive MVP of the tournament for his six saves on the weekend, two of which came against fifth-ranked St. John's ... The Aztecs finished second overall in the tournament ... Next up for SDSU is a match against UC Riverside on Sat., Sept. 10, the teams' lone competition on the week.

  • STANFORD CardinalStanford opened up its season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Bay Area rival, San Jose State, along with a 1-0 loss to UC Davis to begin the 2005 campaign with a 0-1-1 record ... In the game against the Spartans, junior goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen was credited with two saves and notched his first shutout on the year ... The Cardinal were outshot in the match, 13-9 ... Against Davis three days later, Stanford had solid opportunities to score, but could not capitalize and fell, 1-0 ... The team heads to Cal this weekend to compete in the Legacy Classic, facing Cal State Northridge on Fri., Sept. 9 and Vanderbilt on Sun., Sept. 11.

  • UCLA BruinsUCLA had a tough opening weekend, facing both the No. 21 and No. 2 teams in the nation, coming away with a 4-0 upset over Maryland and a 3-2 edging by Santa Clara to open at 1-1 on the year ... Freshman midfielder Sal Zizzo, making his first collegiate start against Maryland, scored a goal and notched two assists in the game ... Against the Broncos on Saturday, UCLA came back from two goals down in the first half, to nearly pulling off the dramatic win ... Both Jordan Harvey and Maxwell Griffin scored in the contest ... Next up for the Bruins will be a match at Loyola Marymount on Sun., Sept. 11.

  • WASHINGTON HuskiesWashington, competing at the Nike Invitational in Portland, landed a 3-1 win over Cal Poly to open its season, but fell just a bit shy in a 3-2 edging by 12th-ranked Creighton two days later to start the season at 1-1 ... Against Cal Poly on Friday, sophomores Adam West and Spencer Schmidt scored their first career goals within a three minute time span in the second half, to break the 1-1 tie ... Senior midfielder Mike Chabala also scored two goals and added an assist over the weekend ... The Huskies will hit the road to play Saint Mary's on Sun., Sept. 11.
