ARIZONA - Senior OH Jennifer Abernathy was named MVP of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic for the second consecutive season after hitting .400 in three matches, averaging 4.67 kills, 1.78 digs, 0.89 blocks, and 0.44 service aces per game ... Also named all-tournament were senior OH Kim Glass, who averaged 4.67 kills and 2.00 digs, and senior MB Bre Ladd, who posted 2.56 kills and 1.00 blocks ... The Wildcats are hitting .333 in three matches this season.
ARIZONA STATE - The schedule of matches at the Sun Devil Wyndham Buttes Volleyball Classic have been rearranged to accommodate Saturday's Arizona State-LSU football game. Due to the use of LSU's athletics facilities for assisting in recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina, the football game was moved to Tempe. The four matches scheduled for Sat., Sept. 10 have been moved to Fri., Sept. 9, while the two matches originally scheduled for Fri., Sept. 9 have been moved to Sat., Sept. 10 ... Setting a career-high and ASU rally-scoring record, sophomore L Sydney Donahue posted 43 digs in the five-game loss to Notre Dame. She fell one dig short of matching the ASU single-match record of 44 set by All-American Christy Nore in 1988. She earned a spot on The Inn at St. Mary's Shamrock Invitational all-tournament team after averaging 7.75 digs per game over the weekend ... In five matches this season, Donahue is averaging 6.32 digs per game.
CALIFORNIA - Coach Rich Feller picked up his 100th win at California with a 3-0 win over Texas State on Friday, Sept. 2. He then picked up his 400th career win with a 3-0 sweep of Morgan State ... The Bears swept all three opponents last week to capture the tournament title at the Century TelClassic Honda Premier ... Junior L Jillian Davis, who sat out a majority of last season with a torn ACL in her left knee, was named tournament MVP after collecting 44 digs, averaging 4.89 digs per game ... Also named to the all-tournament team was sophomore OH Angie Pressey and junior S Samantha Carter. Pressey collected 32 kills (3.56 kpg) and hit .318, while Carter dished out 131 assists (14.56 apg) ... Carter also tied a Cal school record with nine service aces in the Bears' victory over Morgan State Sept. 3. Carter accomplished her nine service aces in a three-game match, where as Brook Coulter's nine service aces in 1999 at Oregon were in a five-game match and Gabrielle Abernathy's nine aces against Arizona State last season were in a four-game match.
OREGON - Senior OH Jaclyn Jones hit .429 with 11 kills on 21 attempts with two errors in the win over Southern Oregon ... Freshman OH Mira Djuric posted match highs of 12 kills and three solo blocks, and junior MB Kristen Bitter hit .600 (6-for-10) with zero errors ... Another freshman, OH Rachel Yurkovich , recorded the first kill of her career and made the most of her time on the court in Game 3 with eight swings. Yurkovich, who owns the national high school mark in the javelin, will also compete for the Ducks in track and field.
OREGON STATE - The Beavers hit .352 in three matches at the NIKE Portland Invitational ... Sophomore OH Kristin Murray led the Beavers in kills and blocks (tied) through OSU's opening weekend tournament. She posted 33 kills in 10 games (3.30 kpg) and 11 blocks (1.10 bpg) including 4 solos ... Murray earned a spot on the NIKE Portland Invitational all-tournament team ... The Beavers have limited the opposition to a .069 hitting percentage and hold a blocking advantage of 35.0 to 12.5.
STANFORD - In three victories at the Boston College Tournament, the Cardinal hit .339, while holding the opposition to a .030 attack percentage ... Sophomore S Bryn Kehoe was named Tournament MVP at the Boston College Invitational. Kehoe collected 126 assists (12.6 apg), 35 digs (3.50 dpg), eleven blocks, seven service aces and six kills in the three matches ... Freshman MB Foluke Akinradewo and junior OH Kristin Richards were named to the all-tournament team. Akinradewo hit .551 in collecting 42 kills (4.20 kpg) and 14 blocks (1.40 bpg) in the three matches while Richards checked in with 37 kills (4.11 kpg) and 24 digs (2.67 dpg).
UCLA - Junior OH Colby Lyman was named MVP of the Sands/SBC Tournament in Reno, Nev. She posted 29 kills (2.42 kpg) and 33 digs (2.75 dpg) with nine block assists and four aces ... Junior MB Nana Meriwether also earned all-tournament honors as she posted 38 kills (3.45 kpg) and 16 blocks (1.45 bpg) for the tournament. She posted 11 total blocks (1 solo/10 assisted) in the five-game win over host Nevada ... Freshman OH Kaitlin Sather had a team-high and career-best 20 kills in the win over Nevada.
USC - Senior MB Bibiana Candelas was named all-tournament at the Hawaiian Airlines Classic after hitting .336 to collect 45 kills (4.50 kpg). Candelas hit .545 with 19 kills in 33 attempts with just one error in the win over Western Michigan ... By dropping consecutive matches to Penn State and Hawai'i at the Hawaiian Airlines Classic, USC lost two consecutive matches for the first time since 1998 when the Women of Troy fell to Wisconsin (Sept. 12, 1998) and Stanford (Sept. 18, 1998).
WASHINGTON - In four matches this season, the Huskies are hitting .478. UW opponents have hit in the negative percentages in three of four matches this season ... Junior S Courtney Thompson was named MVP of the NIKE Invitational in Portland after dishing out 82 assists (13.67 apg) ... Also earning all-tournament honors was senior MB Darla Myhre ... Senior OH Sanja Tomasevic is hitting .606 on the year, collecting 45 kills in 71 attempts with just two errors.
WASHINGTON STATE - A pair of Cougars were named to the UC Davis Howard Johnson Aggie Invite All-Tournament team - senior transfer MB Natalia Owens posted 24 kills (2.18 kpg), 25 blocks (2.27 bpg), 4 aces, and 43 digs (3.91 dpg). Junior MB Jen Barcus tallied 34 kills (3.09 kpg), 16 blocks (1.45 bpg), 16 digs (1.45 dpg), and 4 aces ... Owens excelled against host UC Davis with 16 kills (.357), 26 digs and 12 blocks ... In three matches at the Howard Johnson Aggie Invite, the Cougars recorded 48.5 blocks (4.41 bpg).
