Volleyball Sweeps Auburn To Complete Perfect Day

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Three different players recorded double-digits in kills to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a three-game sweep over the Auburn Tigers Friday evening in the fourth match of the Wyndham Buttes Volleyball Classic at Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 30-17, 30-26, 30-25 in favor of the Sun Devils.
ASU (3-4) ran its win streak to two matches after also beating Northern Arizona in straight sets earlier in the day. Auburn split its matches on the day to even its record at 2-2 on the season.
Freshman outside hitter Margie Giordano (Glendale, Ariz.) led the Sun Devils with 11 kills and recorded 10 digs for her second career double-double. She also had two aces and three blocks for a match-high 15.5 points. Junior middle blocker Tierra Burnley (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and sophomore middle blocker Staci Smith (Gresham, Ore.) each had 10 kills in the winning effort.
Sophomore libero Sydney Donahue continued her streak of reaching double-digits in digs in each match this season, contributing a match-high 18.
The Tigers were led by nine kills from Rachel Shanks and 16 digs from libero Bailey Veit.
The Devils conclude tournament action Saturday afternoon with a 1p.m. match against Texas State. Auburn will play Northern Arizona in the early match at 11 a.m. All matches for the Wyndham Buttes Volleyball Classic offer free admission.
