New Mexico Trip - Sept 8-11
Our day off on Saturday was filled with many adventures. After breakfast at the hotel, we had a short training session at the University of New Mexico field. We started off with a game of Head Volleyball, where the Blondes played against the Brunettes. I was on the Blondes, but a couple of months ago I was definitely a member of the Brunette team. It's only fair to represent both sides. During the game we are only allowed to head the ball (goalkeepers can box the ball with their fists), and the net moves as someone messes up or the ball bounces. Our team is very competitive, so this game was very intense. Our coach, Ray Leone (definitely a Brunette) was serving the balls. He was definitely gunning for the Brunette team, giving them mysterious wins. However, the Blondes came out victorious, as usual.
We had Subway for lunch back at the hotel before doing a little Study Hall time. My roommate, Lara Kezer, was cranking out some chapters in her book, so she could go to the movie. I, on the other hand, took my time studying for my Mass Media Law test. Instead of going to the movies, I went to Starbucks with our team nanager (yes, nanny + manager), Al, and a couple of teammates to study. On the way to dinner, the Starbucks van witnessed a hit and run accident. We tried to follow the driver, but we were only able to find the car that got hit. We weren't too good at investigating. Dinner at Sweet Tomatoes was definitely a good idea. All-you-can-eat restaurants are perfect for hungry soccer players. We came back to the hotel just in time to watch the ASU football game on TV.
We are excited to play Auburn tomorrow morning after beating Syracuse Friday night, 3-1. We played our best game of the season so far, putting away three goals, and combining and moving the ball very well. After winning our first 'quarter' of the season, we are eager to start off a new 'quarter' on a good note. Wish us luck!
