Husky Golfers Open at Minnesota
Sept. 16, 2005
Seattle - The Washington men's golf team opens its 2005 fall season at the Minnesota Collegiate Invitational Saturday. The Huskies, ranked fifth in GolfWorld's preseason poll and ninth in Golfweek's preseason standings, are one of 12 teams playing at the Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn.
The tournament format includes 36 holes of play Saturday followed by a single round Sunday. Spring Hill is a Tom Fazio designed private club that opened in 1999. Spring Hill measures 7,020 yards from the championship tees and slopes at 74.3/148. Golf Digest rated Spring Hill as the fifth best new private course in the country in 2000.
In addition to the Huskies and host Golden Gophers, the field includes SMU, Stanford, Purdue, Indiana, Georgia State, UAB, Notre Dame, UNC Wilmington, Memphis and Georgia Southern.
Washington's lineup will feature the same five players who guided the Huskies to a third-place finish at last year's NCAA Championships. James Lepp, the reigning NCAA Individual Champ, is joined by Pac-10 Champion Erik Olson, Alex Prugh, Zach Bixler and Joe Panzeri.
