Volleyball Falls to Middle Tennessee State

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Washington State Cougars lost to Middle Tennessee State 30-28, 30-28, 30-26 Friday evening in the opening match at the Billikens Classic Tournament hosted by Saint Louis University.
Middle Tennessee State advanced its record to 12-1 overall while WSU is now 5-4 overall.
WSU's Natalia Owens and Jen Barcus combined for 20 kills and were the only Cougars with double-figure kills. Jalen Pendon added 11 digs, Gwen Davis 26 assists. Barcus and Brittany Johnson had eight blocks each as WSU out-blocked the Blue Raiders 19 to 3.5.
Middle Tennessee State was led by the combined 39 kills from Ashley Adams, and Vicky Monasterolo, and Andressa Lyra. Alicia Lemau'u led the match with 18 digs and Quanshell Scott had three blocks. Setter Megan Sumrell had 51 assists.
MTSU hit .216 for the match and held WSU to a .155 team hitting percentage.
WSU continues play in the Billikens Classic Saturday meeting Oakland University at 10:30 a.m. PT and host Billikens at 5 p.m.
