Soccer Grabs 1-0 Victory Over Long Island

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Washington State (5-2-0) soccer blanked Long Island (3-4-0) 1-0 Sunday in its final game of the OSU Nike Invitational Tournament at Paul Lorenz Field. Alix Rustrum provided the lone goal recording her first tally of the season.

The Cougars battled the Blackbirds through 74 minutes of scoreless play before Rustrum found the back of the net for the win. Allison Scurich headed down an Anna Miller corner kick which Rustrum tapped in for the score.

Rustrum led the Cougar offense with five shots and Carmen Anderson added three as Washington State out shot the Blackbirds 14-to-3. Sophomore Brynn Bemis started in goal for WSU grabbing two saves and recording the first shutout of her Cougar career.

The Cougars face No. 17 Cal Poly Friday, Sept. 23 at San Luis Obispo and Nevada Sunday, Sept. 25 at Reno as WSU continues its non-conference schedule.
