UCLA Men To Run At Griak CC Invitational On Saturday In St. Paul, MN

Eric Peterson's UCLA men and women's cross country teams on Saturday (Sept. 24) will run in the 20th annual Roy Griak Invitational, held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul, MN and hosted by the University of Minnesota.
One of the top collegiate cross country events in the Midwest, the Griak Invite consistently attracts the nation's top-ranked squads. In the men's 8000m event that will start at 9:20 a.m. (PT), along with UCLA, teams involved include (preseason rankings) - No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 15 Butler, No. 16 Iowa, No. 25 host Minnesota, No. 27 Michigan and No. 30 Michigan State.
In the 6000m women's event, that begins at 10:10 a.m. (PT), along with the Bruins, other top squads competing include (preseason rankings) - No. 7 Providence, No. 8 Arizona State, No. 15 UC Santa Barbara, No. 18 Princeton, No. 23 Indiana, No. 26 North Carolina, No. 28 Marquette and No. 29 Yale.
Running for the Bruins on Saturday at the Griak Invite will be - senior Nick DeFelice; junior Austin Ramos; sophomores, Mike Haddan and Kyle Shackleton and freshmen, Drew Shackleton, Matt Stollenwerk, Laef Barnes and Ryan Gordon.Last Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, WA, the Bruins placed third in the team standings and were paced by Ramos, who won the 8000m invitational event in a time of 24:00, the fourth-fastest time in the invitational's history.
The Bruins had three other runners in the Top 25 - Haddan (17th/24:33), K. Shackleton (21st/24:42) and Barnes (23rd/24:45).
'This was Austin's first collegiate cross country victory,' said Peterson. 'He ran extremely well. At around the four-mile mark, he opened up about a 30m gap and from there, won the race in dominating fashion. Austin is going to be one of the top runners in the conference this season.'
