US Soccer's Wambach to Serve as Guest Coach for ASU Friday Night

TEMPE, Ariz. - Abby Wambach, one of the top strikers in the world and a member of the US Women's National Team, will serve as a guest coach for the Arizona State University soccer team Friday night as the Sun Devils play host to UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. inside Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Prior to the match, Wambach will join the Sun Devils on the pitch and participate in a jersey exchange as she will receive an official ASU jersey while the program will receive an official Team USA jersey. Following the match, Wambach will join the Sun Devils in signing autographs and meeting with fans.
Wambach has had a brilliant career representing the United States as she has been named the US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in both 2003 and 2004. As a member of the national team, Wambach helped the American side to gold in the 2004 Athens Olympics by scoring the game-winning goal against Brazil in the finals. Prior to the Summer Games, Wambach also represented her nation in the 2003 Women's World Cup.
Known for her offensive prowess, Wambach led the WNT in scoring during the 2004 season as she recorded the second-most points in a single season with 75 on 31 goals and 13 assists. She also tied an American record for goals in a match as she tallied all five in the WNT's 5-0 defeat of Ireland on Oct. 23.
Tickets for the match are available at the front gate of Sun Devil Soccer Stadium and are $5 for adults, $4 for faculty/staff, $3 for juniors/seniors and $2 each for groups of 25 or more.
