NEWS AND NOTES

  • Through four weeks of play, nine of 10 Pac-10 women's soccer teams sit at or above the .500 plateau ... Leading the way is UCLA, who owns a 7-1-0 overall record, good enough for an .875 mark.

  • The Pac-10 currently has six teams ranked in the three Top-25/30 polls ... The Bruins hold down the No. 4 spot in all three polls, while ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, OREGON STATE, STANFORD and USC are all amongst the top teams in the nation ... The Beavers' No. 26 ranking in the Soccer Buzz poll is their first-ever in the national poll ... In addition, WASHINGTON STATE received votes for the first time this season in the Soccer Buzz poll.

  • OSU, riding a four-match win streak, has equaled its best start in school history, as the 1995 squad also went 6-1 to begin the year ... The Beavers have surrendered only four goals all season.

  • USC's Tracy Lansing scored the Women of Troy's first goal against Georgia on Fri., Sept. 16, just 16 seconds into the match, marking the fastest goal in school history ... USC picked up two wins over the weekend to improve to 4-2-1 on the year.

  • UCLA's Iris Mora set a new Bruin record with her 28th career assist in a 4-0 victory over Saint Mary's on Sun., Sept. 18 ... Mora broke Traci Arkenberg's previous mark of 27 set from 1994-1997.

  • This week's matchups include: UA traveling to Portland and hosting UC Santa Barbara, while ARIZONA STATE takes on UCSB, as well ... Cal will play at BYU and at Utah ... Both OREGON and OSU will take on South Dakota State, while the Beavers will also host Gonzaga ... Stanford will play at Navy and UCLA will host Denver ... USC plays at SMU, WASHINGTON takes on Gonzaga and WSU will travel to Cal Poly and Nevada.

  • ARIZONA Wildcats
    Hosting its own fourth-annual Four Points University Plaza Classic, Arizona came away with a 1-0 win over No. 25 Utah on Fri., Sept. 16 and a 1-all tie in double overtime against New Mexico on Sun., Sept. 18 ... The Wildcats are now 4-1-2 on the year and ranked as high as 21st in the Soccer America poll ... Senior midfielder Mallory Miller scored both goals in the two weekend contests to lead the team with six on the year, good enough to tie for first in the Pac-10 ... Sophomore goalkeeper McCall Smith ranks second in the Conference in save percentage at .881 ... UA will next take on Portland on Fri., Sept. 23 and UC Santa Barbara on Sun., Sept. 25.

  • ARIZONA STATE Sun Devils
    Arizona State competed at the adidas/Hypertherm Classic over the weekend, notching a 1-all tie against Villanova on Fri., Sept. 16 before falling 2-1 in overtime against host Dartmouth two days later ... The Sun Devils are now 4-3-1 on the year ... Senior forward Elizabeth Bogus scored both ASU goals on the weekend, giving her 26 in her career, one shy of a tie for second place in the school record books ... ASU ranks first in the Pac-10 in shots with 146 on the season, averaging 18.25 per game ... The Sun Devils will face UC Santa Barbara on Fri., Sept. 23 in their lone match of the week.

  • CALIFORNIA Golden Bears
    California knocked off Pacific, 3-0, in a mid-week match on Wed., Sept. 14, before falling to fourth-ranked Santa Clara, 2-1 in a thrilling double-overtime contest ... With their first loss on the season, the Bears are now 6-1-1 on the year and ranked as high as 9th in the NSCAA poll ... In the win against the Tigers, senior midfielder Lindsay Clute scored two goals to bring her season total to five ... Despite a 1-0 halftime lead, Cal could not hang on for the win against the Broncos ... Senior forward Liz Eisenberg scored the lone goal in the match, giving her six on the year and a tie for first in the Pac-10 charts to date ... On that same play, senior forward Dania Cabello was credited with an assist, the 16th of her career, moving her into sixth place in the all-time school record books ... The Bears will next hit to the road to face BYU on Fri., Sept. 23 and Utah on Sun., Sept. 25.

  • OREGON Ducks
    Oregon is currently 5-1-1 on the year and with a win or a tie against its next opponent, South Dakota State, the team will be off to the best start in school history ... After giving up a Pac-10 worst 2.33 goals per game in 2004, Oregon is only allowing 1.10 per game through seven matches played ... Senior forward Nicole Garbin's six goals through seven games is just three shy of the UO single season record ... Garbin leads the Conference in goals per game with 0.86 ... Oregon takes on SDSU on Fri., Sept. 23 in Eugene.

  • OREGON STATE Beavers
    Oregon State, riding a four-match win streak, defeated Long Island and VCU, 3-1 and 1-0, respectively, in its own OSU Nike Invitational over the weekend to improve to 6-1 on the year ... The record equals the best start in school history, as the 1995 squad also went 6-1 ... OSU's debut in the Soccer Buzz poll at No. 26 is the first such ranking ever in the national poll ... Sophomore forward Jodie Taylor, who was named Offensive MVP of the tournament, scored three of the Beavers' four goals in the two contests, including the dramatic overtime goal against 2004 NCAA tourney participant, VCU ... Taylor leads the Pac-10 in points per game, averaging an impressive 2.0 per game ... The Beavers defense has proved solid thus far, only giving up four goals all year, good enough for a 0.57 average to rank second in the Pac-10 ... OSU will take on Gonzaga on Fri., Sept. 23 and South Dakota State on Sun., Sept. 25 at home.

  • STANFORD Cardinal
    Stanford notched a win and a loss over the weekend, including a 1-0 victory over Tennessee at the First Tennessee Classic ... With a 1-0 edging by Texas A&M on Sun., Sept. 18, Stanford's record to date sits at 3-3-1 ... Sophomore midfielder/defender Lizzy George scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute against the Lady Vols ... Freshman goalkeeper Alex Gamble recorded her second shutout of the season against UT, while she notched six saves against the Aggies, which sets a new career high ... Stanford will next play at Navy on Thurs., Sept. 22.

  • UCLA Bruins
    UCLA picked up two wins over the weekend, including a 2-1 overtime thriller against fourth-ranked Santa Clara at the Broncos' own Buck Shaw Stadium ... The Bruins also picked up a 4-0 victory over Saint Mary's on Sun., Sept. 18 ... In Friday's contest, sophomore midfielder Danesha Adams scored both UCLA goals, including the golden goal in overtime ... Adams tallied seven points on the weekend, moving her into a tie for third place in the Conference with 13 total points ... Senior forward Iris Mora notched two assists in as many contests and now holds the top spot in UCLA's record books for career assists with 28 ... If that was not enough, Mora's record-breaking weekend also included two goals over Saint Mary's ... The Bruins have one match this week, a Fri., Sept. 23 contest against Denver at Drake Stadium.

  • USC Trojans
    USC went 1-0-1 on the weekend, picking up a 3-0 victory over Oakland, as well as notching a 1-all tie in double overtime against Georgia at the Loyola Marymount Tournament, to improve to 4-2-1 on the season ... Junior forward Tracy Lansing scored two goals on the weekend, earning her Co-Offensive MVP honors at the tourney ... The Women of Troy lead the Pac-10 in points, with a total of 54, averaging more than seven points per game ... Junior midfielder Rosa Anna Tantillo leads the Conference in assists and assists per game, with 7 and 1.17, respectively ... USC will next take on Southern Methodist in Dallas on Fri., Sept. 23.

  • WASHINGTON Huskies
    Washington suffered two road losses over the weekend, including a 6-0 defeat at the hands of 19th-ranked Texas A&M and a 1-0 edging by Tennessee at the First Tennessee Classic in Knoxville ... The Huskies are currently 0-6-2 on the season ... Despite the six-goal performance by the Aggies, UW junior goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen was credited with five saves ... Rasmussen leads the Pac-10 in saves per game, averaging 5.62 per contest ... Additionally, the Huskies as a team, also sit atop the Conference in saves per game, with a 6.0 mark ... Washington will face Gonzaga on Sun., Sept. 25 in its lone match of the week.

  • WASHINGTON STATE Cougars
    Continuing its impressive season, Washington State picked up two wins over VCU and Long Island at the OSU Nike Invitational over the weekend ... Both matches were won by identical scores of 1-0, improving the Cougars' overall record to 5-2 on the year ... Freshman forward Megan Hyte picked up her fourth goal of the season against VCU, which also happens to be her fourth game-winning goal, tying her for fourth in the Cougar single season record books ... Senior forward Alix Rustrum notched her first goal on the year with a strike at the 74-minute mark to secure the WSU win over Long Island ... Next up for Washington State will be a Fri., Sept. 23 match against Cal Poly SLO and a Sun., Sept. 25 contest against Nevada, both of which will come on the road.
