Trojans Set For Golfweek/Ping Preview at Crosswater Golf Club
Sept. 22, 2005
The USC men's golf team, coming off a second-place finish in its first tournament of the season, heads north next week to participate in the Golfweek/Ping Preview at Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore., from Monday to Wednesday (Sept. 26-28).
Ranked No. 7 in the preseason by Golfweek.com, the Trojans played like they planned to move up after taking second at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational last week in Toledo, Ohio.
Junior Joshua Wooding (215, +2) and senior Taylor Wood (216, +3) finished second and third, respectively, as the Trojans (883) finished second to Florida (880). Troy led through the first two rounds, shooting tournament-low rounds of 289 and 292 during the first and second 18 holes.
For the second straight week, USC is part of a 15-team field. The tournament, hosted by the University of Portland, features three days of 18 holes in a preview of the NCAA Championships, which will take place on the same course June 1-3, 2006. USC will play a practice round on Saturday (Sept. 25).
USC follows the Golfweek/Ping Preview with a trip to the second annual Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill. Fourteen teams will play 36 holes on Oct. 3 and will follow it with the final 18 holes on Oct. 4 (Monday and Tuesday).
This year's field includes seven schools from each conference: Arizona, Arizona State, California, UCLA, Oregon, USC and Washington from the Pac-10; Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue from the Big Ten.
