Washington State Soccer Ties No. 19 Cal Poly 1-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Washington State battled No. 19 Cal Poly to a 1-1 tie Friday as the Cougars moved to 5-2-1 in non-conference play. Carmen Anderson scored the lone WSU goal in the contest.
The Cougars struck early scoring the first goal of the match as Anderson corralled a corner kick and found the back of the Mustang net at the 1:19 mark. The senior recorded her second goal of the season on the play.
Cal Poly got on the scoreboard eight minutes into the second half knotting the match 1-1. Becky Clark scored her fifth goal of the year heading in a Sharon Day serve in front of the Cougar net. The teams continued to struggle through two overtime periods ending the match in a draw after 110:00 minutes of play.
Cal Poly out shot the Cougars 16-to 7 forcing WSU keeper Katie Hultin to make seven stops, including three key saves in overtime play. Anderson led the Cougar offensive efforts with two shots while Natalie Elkind, Shaye Harrel, Alix Rustrum and Angela Fajardo each contributed one.
The Cougars wrap-up their non-conference road schedule in Sunday in Reno, Nev., where they face Nevada at 1 p.m.
