Berglas Finish Fifth To Lead Trojans At Pepperdine Invitational

Sept. 24, 2005

USC junior Kristen Berglas ran a time of 18:53 to finish fifth and lead the depleted Trojan women's cross country team today (Sept. 24) at the Pepperdine Invitational.

The hopes of the Trojan squad were dampened prior to the meet when two of the team's top five runners, senior captain Kate Neeper (shin) and freshman Megan Kelly (hip) were late scratches due to injuries.

'We held Neeper and Kelly out for precautionary reasons today due to minor injuries,' said USC coach Tom Walsh. 'Our top three runners ran well. Cristina Eads continued to be consistent for us and Treani Swain's first race this season was very encouraging.'

Eads, a junior, finished second for the Trojans and 10th overall with a time of 19:58. In her first competition of the season, junior Swain ran 20:28 to finish 17th in the field.

Sophomore Sara Fusco finished 27th with a time of 21:52, senior Amber Oleson finished 33rd with a time of 23:31 and senior Sarah Sisco, in her first meet for USC, ran a time of 23:55 to finish 35th.

Cal State Los Angeles won the meet with a score of 23, followed by Pepperdine (66), Cal State Northridge (87) and USC (92).
