BERKELEY, Calif. - The 13th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team dropped a three-game match on Friday night at California, falling 30-26, 30-24, 30-28. Junior middle blocker Nana Meriwether led the Bruins with 11.5 points in the loss.
In the opening game, the teams were tied at 4-4 before the Golden Bears took the lead for good. Cal hit .306 to UCLA's .267 in the game, downing 20 kills to UCLA's 10. Game two saw UCLA take an early lead and stay even or ahead of Cal to the 23-23 mark, when Cal pulled away, scoring seven of the last eight points of the game to take a two games to none lead into the break.
A similar pattern emerged in game three, with the teams tied as late as 26-26 before Cal edged ahead. UCLA stayed within one point to the 29-28 mark before an Angie Pressey kill put the game and match away for the Golden Bears.
