No. 4 Bruins Down Denver, 1-0
Sept. 23, 2005
LOS ANGELES - Sophomore midfielder Danesha Adams registered her fourth game-winning goal of the season Friday evening, helping the fourth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Denver at Drake Stadium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 8-1 overall, while Denver falls to 3-4-1.
The lone goal on the evening came in the 56th minute after the Bruins were awarded a throw-in deep in Denver's side of the field. Defender Stacy Lindstrom took the throw-in, sending a ball to Kara Lang, who then crossed it into the box. The ball went right to Adams, who one-touched it past Denver goalkeeper Danielle Wiley.
Just a minute after Adams scored, UCLA had another excellent scoring opportunity when forward Iris Mora was taken down in the Denver box. Wiley, however, guessed correctly on a penalty kick by Jill Oakes, keeping Denver in the match. Wiley finished with eight saves on the evening, as the Bruins outshot the Pioneers, 22-2.
Bruin goalkeeper Valerie Henderson played the full 90 minutes in net, stopping both Denver shots on goal.
UCLA improves its record to 2-0 all-time against Denver, as the Bruins posted a 5-1 victory over the Pioneers at the Cal State Fullerton Fila Classic back in 2001.
UCLA hits the road next week for matches against UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Pepperdine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
