Clem Goes 5-for-5 In Fall Series Opener

SEATTLE - The Gold team, under the leadership of assistant coach Tighe Dickinson, beat the Purple squad, 3-0, Sunday in the first game of the Washington baseball team's annual Fall World Series, a seven-game intrasquad series.

Left fielder Zach Clem, a senior from Burlington, Wash., led the Gold squad, going 5-for-5 with a home run, four singles and two runs scored. Freshman starting pitcher Tyler Cheney earned the win, allowing no runs on three hits over five innings. Tim Lincecum struck out six in two innings of relief and Elliott Cribby worked the final two innings to earn a save and complete the shutout.

Sophomore Michael Burgher led the Purple's offense, going 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Freshman Nick Haughian suffered the loss for the Purple, coached by assistant coach Donny Harrel, allowing only one unearned run on four hits over five innings.

The seven-game fall series continues with game two Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Husky Ballpark. Admission is free to all seven Fall World Series games.
