Sept. 26, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University senior linebacker Jamar Williams has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week after his dominating performance in a 42-24 win over Oregon State.
Williams, a senior from Houston, Texas, led ASU's defense with a game-high 13 tackles (9 solo), including one quarterback sac, an interception and a forced fumble. He anchored the defense that limited the Beavers to only three first-half points. In three games this season, Williams has 17 tackles (12 solo). He becomes the second ASU linebacker in three weeks to earn the defensive honor, joining teammate Dale Robinson, who earned the award against LSU.
The No. 14/15 Sun Devils (3-1, 1-0 Pac-10) face No. 1/1 and two-time defending national champion USC Trojans this weekend at Sun Devil Stadium (ABC, 12:30 p.m.)
