Stanford Hosts Washington State, #2 ranked Washington
Oct. 3, 2005
Stanford, Ca - It promises to be one of the top women's volleyball matches in recent years. Third-ranked Stanford (15-1 overall, 4-0 Pac-10) hosts the second-ranked and unbeaten Washington Huskies (12-0 overall, 3-0 Pac-10) on Saturday (7 p.m.) at Maples Pavilion.
Both teams are prime contenders to win the NCAA title, and if last year's match at Stanford is any indication, this could be one of the all-time best matches in school history. Last year on the Cardinal's home court, Stanford battled back from eleven match points, and a 2-0 game deficit to score a 28-30, 11-30, 30-27, 34-32, 20-18 victory. The two teams later met in the semifinals of the NCAA Final Four and the Cardinal came away with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Huskies.
On Friday night at 7 p.m. at Maples Pavilion, Stanford will begin another week of Pac-10 play against the much-improved Washington State Cougars.
Both matches against the Washington schools will be designated as 'Pack the Pavilion' contests.
Seven more matches are on the home schedule at Maples Pavilion for the nationally-ranked Cardinal In addition to this week's matches against Washington State and Washington, the Cardinal will host five other matches including nationally-ranked Arizona (Nov. 11, 7:00 p.m.) and Bay Area rival and nationally-ranked California (Nov. 18, 7:00 p.m.).
