Huskies Ousted From All-American Championships

Oct. 4, 2005

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Senior Dinka Hadzic fell today in the second round of qualifying at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, while Hadzic and sophomore Tara Simpson went out in the first round of doubles qualifying at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Hadzic and Simpson fought through prequalifying to reach the qualifying draw, but lost to a team from Texas, the new home of former Husky coach Patty McCain. Knowing her former players as well as anyone certainly had to help, as the Texas team of Kendra Strohn and Marija Milic scored an 8-3 win.

In singles play, Hadzic endured an inauspicious start to the first match of her senior season, dropping the first set 6-0 to Arizona State's Kady Pooler. However, Hadzic rallied to win the next two sets by 6-4 counts. In the second round later in the day, Hadzic was trailing Florida's Boglarka Berecz, 6-1, 3-1, when she was forced to retire.

The next time the women see action will be October 21 when they travel to Stanford for the start of ITA Regionals.
