WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford sophomore midfielder Rachel Buehler has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 27- Oct. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Del Mar, Calif., native netted the game-winning goal on Friday night as Stanford upset No. 5 Santa Clara, 1-0, marking her first goal as a Cardinal. Buehler came back on Sunday and scored her second goal in as many games, notching the game-winning goal against Colorado College to help the Cardinal earn the 2005 Stanford Nike Invitational title.
Buehler, who moved from defense to midfield this season after taking last season off to play with the U.S. FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship team, has two goals in her collegiate career. She helped the U.S. capture third place at the 2004 FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship.
Stanford (6-3-1), ranked No. 15 in this week's Soccer America poll, hosts the Washington schools this weekend as Conference play opens.
