Bruch Advances to Third Round at All-American Championships

Freshman Matt Bruch continued his winning ways as he won two matches today in the opening rounds of the singles competition at the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's Tennis All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Senior KC Corkery, seeded eighth in the tournament, won his first round match, but was upset in the second round.
Bruch, who won three matches in the qualifying round to advance to the main draw, beat Ivan Bjelca of Mississippi State 6-3, 6-1 in the first round, then came back later in the day to defeat Walter Ludovic of Duke 6-4, 6-2. Bruch will play in the third round on Friday against Buck Shannon of Air Force.
Corkery won his first round match 7-5, 6-3 over Miklo Marko of Virginia, but was then beaten in the second round by Luchici Raian of North Carolina 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
James Wan lost his first round match to Huey Treat of Virginia 6-2, 6-2. Wan then lost a match in the consolation bracket to Jonathon Stokke of Duke 7-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, Corkery and James Pade won their opening round match 9-8 (5) over Robert Searle and Ben Harknett of Rice. The Cardinal duo will play a second round match on Friday against Gajjar Rohan and Zguns Adrians of Arkansas.
