Slovic Advances to the Consolation Round of 16 at the All American Championships

Tulsa, OK. -- Washington men's tennis player, junior Alex Slovic, lost his first round match but rallied to win his second and enter the second consolation round of the Polo Ralph Lauren/ITA Men's All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Slovic, an unseeded player in the tournament, was defeated 7-6(6), 7-6(3) by the No, 4 seed, Georgia's John Isner. The match remained close throughout its duration, having no service breaks. Slovic had a set point in the 1st set but was unable to prevail.
In the first consolation round, Slovic was able to prevail over NC State's Nick Cavaday 7-5, 6-1. Last year Slovic was defeated in the first round of the tournament and went on to rally off five straight victories and win the All-American Consolation Championship.
Slovic will meet Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech in the second consolation round at 9:00am CT on Friday.
The Polo Ralph Lauren/ITA Men's All-American Championships and its women's counterpart - the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships - are the first of three national championship tournaments for collegiate tennis during the 2005-06 season. The two other tournaments (for singles and doubles only) are the ITA National Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
