Andrew And Kolozar Earn Wins In Swimming Pentathlon

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University sophomore Caitlin Andrew and senior David Kolozar recorded victories in the Sun Devils' annual Pentathlon event held Saturday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex.
Each swimmer competed in five events, including the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and the 200 IM. The lowest time of the five combined events won the event.
Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) led the women's team with an overall time of 6:08.06. ASU's school record holder in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, Andrew blistered the field with wins in the fly (56.89), back (59.72) and freestyle (52.05). She also placed second in the 200 IM with a 2:09.44. Senior Sally Brown (Andover, Mass.), freshman Jen Beckberger (Ajax, Ontario), Sophomore Ellis Schieman (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and senior Heidi Schmidt (Visalia, Calif.) rounded out the women's top five.
Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) led the men's team with an overall time of 5:30.23. The former All-American in the 200 butterfly placed second in the 100 fly (51.75) and 200 IM (1:54.42), third in the breast (59.38) and fourth in the free (48.22). Sophomore CJ Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.), freshman Sean Boyle (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), Sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and senior Joey Clements (Rowland Heights, Calif.) rounded out the men's top five.
Former Sun Devil All-American Nick Brunelli also competed in the exhibition event and recorded the best overall time with a 5:24.62. Brunelli is coming off a solid summer swimming with USA Swimming and is training for a sport in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The Sun Devils officially open the 2005-06 campaign Oct. 21 with a dual meet at the University of Hawai'i. The squad will next be in action at Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex Oct. 28-29 against UC Santa Barbara and Penn State.
