No. 19 Stanford Shuts Out Cougar Soccer 1-0

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State opened Pacific-10 conference play Friday with a 1-0 loss to No. 19 Stanford at Maloney Field. The Cardinal's Shari Summers recorded the lone goal of the match.

The two teams battled through 70 minutes of scoreless play before Summers found the back of the Cougar net off a Haley Hunt cross. Summers' shot slipped past WSU keeper Katie Hultin for the game winning goal.

The Cardinal out shot the Cougars 7-to 2 in the first half and 11-to-3 overall. Haley Thompson-Miller had two shots for Washington State and Alix Rustrum contributed one. Hultin made three stops in the contest while Stanford keeper Alex Gamble had one save.

The Cougars continue their Pac-10 road trip taking on the No. 13 Golden Bears of California Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
