Stollenwerk, Mann Lead UCLA At UCSD Triton Cross Country Classic
Oct. 8, 2005
Several UCLA women and men runners competed today at the UC San Diego Triton Cross Country Classic. The course was a campus site for the women's 6K event and the men's 8K race. Because of the limited number of runners, UCLA did not compete in the women or men's team standings.
In the men's 8K race, UCLA had two participants, both finishing in the Top 33 (out of 204 runners). UCLA was led by redshirt freshman Matt Stollenwerk, who placed 17th overall in a time of 26:43.9. Freshman Ryan Gordon finished 33rd (27:07.4).
In the women's 6K event, the Bruins entered four runners and all four UCLA participants placed in the Top 27 (out of 184 runners). The Bruins were led by senior Lori Mann, who placed fifth overall, running the 6K course in a time of 22:35.1. Also running for the Bruins were - freshman Ciara Viehweg (12th/23:04.9), senior Leslie Barrie (25th/23:38.6) and freshman Lauren Jirges (27th/23:41.7).
Next weekend (Saturday, Oct. 15), the Bruins will travel to Terre Haute, IN to compete in the Pre-NCAA Invitational, hosted by Indiana State. The top cross country teams in the nation will be competing at the Pre-NCAA Invite-on the same course that will host the upcoming NCAA Championships (Nov. 21).
