No. 13 Cal Volleyball Defeats Washington State, 3-0

BERKELEY, CALIF. - Led by seniors Alicia Powers and Jenna Brown, and freshman Morgan Beck, the No. 13-ranked California women's volleyball team (12-3, 5-1) defeated Washington State (8-10, 1-4) 3-0 (30-16, 30-26, 30-23) Saturday night at Haas Pavilion.
Powers was outstanding for the second night in-a-row, leading the Golden Bears with 13 kills and hitting .524 for the evening (13k, 2e, 21att) with five total blocks. The senior captain was also stellar against No. 2-ranked Washington on Friday when she hit .357 for that contest (11k, 1e, 28att) and had an impressive 10 total blocks (career-high three solo blocks, seven block assists). Beck added 12 kills to go along with her career-high 19 kills Friday versus the Huskies. Brown added 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage (10k, 2e, 18att) against the Cougars and had a team-high 17 digs.
Junior setter Samantha Carter finished with 47 assists and junior libero Jillian Davis added 15 digs. Carter, Beck and Powers also had two service aces apiece. Redshirt freshman Am'ra Solomon had a career-high eight kills as well. Washington State was led by Natalia Owens team-high 10 kills and Jen Barcus had a .474 hitting percentage with nine kills and no errors in 19 attempts.
Cal will next travel to Arizona State, Thursday, Oct. 13, and No. 12 Arizona, Friday, Oct. 14 with 7 p.m. matches at the Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz., and the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz., respectively.
