Men's Basketball Announces 6th Man Alumni Program
Oct. 10, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - To further its goal of having the best student fan club in the nation, Stanford men's basketball has created the 6th Man Alumni program to begin this season. Sixth Man alumni will have exclusive access to a special allotment of tickets. With Maples Pavilion long sold out for Men's Basketball games, Coach Johnson wanted to be able to offer a limited number of tickets to former 6th Man Club Members.
'The 6th Man Club has always meant a lot to Stanford Basketball,' commented Head Coach Trent Johnson. 'The former 6th Man members were great fans while they were Stanford students and we wanted to be able to get our best fans back in Maples.'
The Stanford 6th Man Club is the official student fan club for Stanford Men's Basketball. With more than 2,000 members annually, the 6th Man Club is nationally recognized as one of the top students sections. In addition to making Maples one of the most intimidating arenas in the nation, the 6th Man Club has become one of the most popular activities for Stanford students.
This is not the first new venture for the 6th Man Club this year. Earlier this month, Coach Johnson announced Stanford Basketball's partnership with the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. For the first time ever, a special version of the 6th Man Club t-shirt can be purchased by the general public at http://store.stanford.edu/6thman. Half the proceeds go directly to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
There are currently more than 2,500 6th Man Alumni who have graduated within the last five years, with almost half living in the Bay Area. These 6th Man Alumni will be contacted directly by email with directions on how to purchase tickets and more information on the program.
Stanford men's basketball will also be hosting two Stanford Young Alumni Nights on January 5 and 7 when Stanford takes on Oregon State and Oregon. With the current students away on Winter Break, the Young Alumni will have the exclusive opportunity to be in the 6th Man section for those games.
