Men's Tennis Continues Play at Bronco Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The California men's tennis team competed in the second round of the Bronco Invitational in Santa, Clara, Calif. The Golden Bears won four singles contests and two doubles matches on Saturday.
Individually, Senior Dean Wallace defeated Sacramento State's Juraid Hossain in the 'blue singles consolation' semifinals [4-6; 7-5; 1-0(7)]. Freshman Eoin Heavey collected a victory in the 'red singles' semifinals by defeating Nevada's Guillaume Tonelli (5-7; 6-4; 6-2). Freshman Tore Deleuran nabbed a victory for the Bears by defeating UC Davis' Jordan Combs in the 'red singles consolation' [6-7(7); 6-4; 1-0(10-8)]. Cal's lone loss in singles came at the hand of Stanford's Blake Muller, when he defeating sophomore Ken Nakahara in two sets (6-4; 6-3).
The Bears' went undefeated in doubles play on Saturday. The freshman duo of Heavey and Deleuran teamed to defeat Santa Clara's Brogan and Hirakawa-Wong in the 'red doubles semifinals' (8-4). Pettit and Nakahara also grabbed a doubles victory in the 'blue doubles semifinals' for the Bears, winning by default over Pacific's Loucks and Redpath [Ret (inj)].
The Bears will continue play at the Bronco Invitational. The tournament is being held at two sites, the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara campus and the Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club. Sunday's round will start off with doubles matched beginning at 9 a.m. (PDT), with singles matches to follow.
