WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State freshman goalkeeper Packy Deenihan has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 4 - 10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Deenihan, from Pleasanton, Calif., made two saves in the Beavers' 2-1 victory over No. 15 San Diego State, handing the Aztecs their first loss of the season. He added four saves in Oregon State's 1-0 win over No. 12 UCLA, which was the first time the Bruins have been shut out in 2005.
As a starter, Deenihan is 7-1-4 with 64 saves and a .93 goals-against average. He is ranked 20th in the nation in saves per game (5.33) and is tied for 17th with his shots on goal save percentage (.842).
Oregon State's two wins extends its unbeaten streak to 10 games, a new school record, with the last three wins coming over ranked Pac-10 teams. Oregon State is also riding a 10-game winning streak at home, dating back to last year, also an OSU record.
The Beavers (3-0-0, 7-2-4) will travel to the Bay Area this weekend, facing California on Fri., Oct. 14 and Stanford on Sun., Oct. 16.
This is Deenihan's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and 11th weekly honor all-time for Oregon State.
