Flash Quotes

HEAD COACH Mark Trakh
'We're excited to start off the season with practice this Saturday.'

'We return a lot of experienced people who performed well under pressure on a national stage at the NCAA Tournament last season. We took Michigan State down to the wire and they found a way to win it at the end as all good teams do. I just went along for the ride. It's amazing how far you can go when you have good players.'

'We're cautiously optimistic because we have to get a lot of people healthy and back on the court. There are a lot of kids that have injuries right now, so we're hoping they get better. That's a key right now. They're tough kids, though. They want to be on the floor.'

'We are led by one senior, Meghan Gnekow, who had a good year last year. She's our captain and the heart and soul of the team. We also have an excellent junior class. We just have good kids with a great attitude who get it done on the court and in the classroom.'

'We're excited about this season and excited about moving into the Galen Center in 2006.'

ON USC'S 2004-05 NO. 23 FINAL RANKING
COACH TRAKH:
'It's nice that we're being recognized, but I don't put a lot of stock in it. It's where we are at the end of the season that matters to me.'

JUNIOR CENTER Chloe Kerr:
'A continuation of last season is expected of us. We're continuing to rebuild our program and work to our potential.'

ON COACH TRAKH'S FIRST SEASON AT USC IN 2004-05
SENIOR GUARD Meghan Gnekow:
'He pretty much convinced us when he showed up the first day. Everyone bought in, we all got a long and we were trying to do the same thing, so it worked out.'

ON THE USC TRADITION AND 'BRINGING IT BACK' TEAM MOTTO
GNEKOW:
I never knew what the NCAA (Tournament) meant coming into college. Now all of us are hungry for more. We all want to go back and make it past the second round.

KERR:
We knew the tradition of winning and winning championships, but it's also about bringing back the fundamentals and what basketball is meant to be.

COACH TRAKH:
'That's part of the 'Bring it Back' motto, we want to get the alumni involved. The expectations are high to get back to that level. I don't know how long it'll take, but we want to get there. We want to bring the alumni back and get to the tournament each year. When Cheryl Miller walked through my office last year, I almost asked for her autograph for myself.'

ON THE OPENING OF THE GALEN CENTER IN 2006
JUNIOR FORWARD Eshaya Murphy:
'The adrenaline's pumping and there's a lot of high hopes. I feel like it's a good day to be a Trojan.'

COACH TRAKH:
'With the new Galen Center it'll be a definite change in our program.'

ON STRENGTH OF THE PAC-10
COACH TRAKH:
'Having five Pac-10 teams invited (to the NCAA Tournament) was the first step, but having all five win was great.'

ON USC'S TEAM BALANCE
COACH TRAKH:
'It's a catch-22 when you have one go-to player, because they can have an off-night. I'd rather have five or six players to go to. We want that instead of one of two players we have to rely on night after night.'
