Baseball Recruiting Class Rated Fifth Best in the U.S.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Second-year baseball head coach John Savage's first UCLA recruiting class has been rated as the fifth best incoming class in the country by Baseball America, the publication released its poll of Top-12 recruiting classes Wednesday. The group, which consists of 12 freshman and five transfers and includes four drafted players and a handful of high school MVPs, began classes at UCLA on Thursday, September 29.

'We are very proud of our incoming class and are confident that these new faces will provide this program will a strong and positive direction,' Savage said. 'Baseball America is one of the most respected baseball publications in the country and we feel they have done a great job evaluating the talent of our incoming class.'

The 2006 recruiting class was structured by Savage and UCLA's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Pat Shine. Last month, Collegiate Baseball rated the class as ninth best in the nation.

Three Pac-10 teams were listed among the country's best recruiting classes. This year's top-12 classes, according to the magazine are: Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Texas, South Carolina, UCLA, Tennessee, Lousiana State, Virginia, Stanford, Auburn, Mississippi and San Diego.
