Stanford Men's Soccer Prepares For Washington And Oregon State

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's soccer team (3-6-2, 0-2-1 Pac-10) is back in action this weekend, hosting Washington (6-3-1, 0-2-1 Pac-10) on Friday, October 14 at 7 p.m. and Oregon State (7-2-4, 3-0 Pac-10) on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Maloney Field.
Stanford is looking for their first Pac-10 victory after conference losses to UCLA (2-0) and Cal (1-0) and a 1-1 double overtime draw with San Diego State. Of the Cardinal's six losses this season, five are by just one goal.Sophomore midfielder Marcus Ryan leads the team with nine points on four goals and one assist. Junior midfielder/defender Galen Thompson is the only other Cardinal with multiple goals (two). Junior goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen has played seven matches, posting a 0.67 goals against average and three shutouts.
UW leads the all-time series with Stanford 18-13-1. The Huskies are unbeaten against Stanford in the last four meetings, posting three victories and one draw. Last season, UW defeated Stanford 1-0 in Palo Alto (Oct. 29) after the teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Seattle (Oct. 10). Until the 2003 season, Stanford had won five consecutive meetings.
OSU is 3-16-2 all-time against Stanford. OSU won both games in 2003 while Stanford won both games in 2004. At Stanford, OSU is 1-10. The Beavers' 10-game unbeaten streak is the longest in school history, breaking a nine-game streak over the 1990 and 1991 seasons. On the season, the Beavers have 21 goals in 13 games. Sophomore midfielder/forward Nick Webb leads the team with four goals.
Stanford hits the road next week, taking on the Beavers in Corvallis, Ore., on Friday, Octboer 21 at 1 p.m. and the Huskies in Seattle, Wash., on Sunday, October 23 at 1 p.m.
