Bruins Blank Ducks, 3-0
Oct. 14, 2005
EUGENE, Ore. -- UCLA got an early goal from Danesha Adams, while Jill Oakes tacked on two more later on, as the fourth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team (12-1; 2-0 Pac-10) downed Oregon, 3-0 Friday evening at Pape Field. The Bruins have now won eight in a row. The Ducks fall to 8-4-1 and 0-3 in the Pac-10 with the loss.
Adams got UCLA on the board in the sixth minute after she tipped a long pass from Kara Lang to herself and got past the Oregon back line to beat drawn out Duck goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield low on the left side.
Oakes gave the Bruins 2-0 lead at the 31:44 mark when she finished a wild series that began with a Stephanie Kron corner kick. Kron's high corner went directly to Caitlin Ursini, who hammered a line drive off the crossbar from straight in front of the goal. Ursini's shot bounced once and Lang then headed an attempt, which deflected off an Oregon player to Oakes, who found the open net from 13 yards out.
Oakes, a senior defender, then finished the scoring by one-timing an Iris Mora cross off a free kick in the air for an artistic goal at the 72:29 mark.
The Bruins out-shot Oregon 26-8 in the match. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Davis recorded the first complete match of her career, playing the full 90 minutes in goal. She finished with saves on the night.
Oregon was held scoreless for the second straight game. That hadn't happened since a three-game scoreless skid against USC, UCLA and Oregon State last season. The 903 fans marked the eighth-largest crowd in Pape' Field history.
UCLA next travels to Corvallis, Ore. for a Sunday showdown with Oregon State at Noon.
