Two Late Goals Lift Arizona State Past Cougars, 4-2

PULLMAN, Wash. - Haley Stein scored two goals and the Sun Devils tallied two scored in the final nine minutes as Arizona State defeated Washington Stat 4-2 in a women's soccer game Friday afternoon at Lower Soccer Field.
With the loss the Cougars fall to 7-6-1, 0-3-0 in Pacific-10 Conference play. Arizona State improves to 7-5-2, 2-1-0 in conference action.
The Sun Devils opened the scoring at the 12:55 mark when Brittany Cooper put a free kick into the top corner from 20 yards out. The score remained 1-0 through halftime as neither team generated a lot of opportunities.
In the second half Washington State tied the second when Carmon Anderson's free kick from 25 yards out found its way inside the far post in the 52nd minute. Less than four minutes later the Sun Devils regained the lead as Stein controlled a ball inside the box and sent a low shot past a diving Katie Hultin.
The Cougars bounced back to tie the score in the 67th minute as Sasha Baines connected on her first goal of the season, a header to the near post off Anna Miller's corner kick. The score remained tied until the 83 rd minute when Manya Makoski's shot hit the right post and rebounded directly to Stein inside the box. Stein quickly sent the ball back past Hultin for the game-winner.
Arizona State's final goal came in the 87th minute as Elizabeth Bogus stole the ball just across midfield and outran the Cougar defense as she sent the ball low into the right corner.
For the game the Sun Devils outshot the Cougars, 12-5, while both teams managed three corner kicks.
The Cougars continue their homestand as they host Arizona Sunday at Lower Soccer Field. Gametime is set for noon.
